Yosemite View Lodge is such a great place to stay when visiting Yosemite National Park! Located in El Portal just two miles from the Arch Rock Entrance, it’s the closest hotel to Yosemite Valley. 🙌

The lodge sits right off Highway 140, a lower-elevation road that makes a big difference in winter. My husband and I stayed here during a snowstorm, and it was the perfect home base for safely driving in and out without worrying about higher mountain passes.

It sits along the rushing Merced River with stunning mountain views all around. Our river view room had a cozy fireplace and spa tub, and watching the snow fall over the river from our balcony was so magical. ❄️✨

Here’s what you should know before you book your stay, including location, prices, best time to stay, and summary of my review.

Where is Yosemite View Lodge located?

Yosemite View Lodge is located in El Portal, just two miles from Yosemite’s Arch Rock Entrance. It’s the closest hotel to Yosemite Valley outside of the park, with an easy 25-30 minute drive to the heart of the valley.

El Portal may be small, but you’ll still find a few restaurants, river access points, and nearby outdoor adventures like rafting and biking. Plus, the town of Mariposa is about 30–40 minutes away if you need groceries or additional services.

Overall, the location is one of the biggest reasons to stay here if you can’t get a room at the lodges inside the park.

Best Time to Stay at Yosemite View Lodge

The best time to stay at Yosemite View Lodge really depends on what kind of Yosemite trip you’re planning.

If you want full access to hiking trails in Yosemite, biking and rafting nearby, and long daylight hours, summer is the most popular time to stay. Spring and fall are also amazing, with fewer crowds, and cooler temperatures. Late spring also offers a chance to see waterfalls at their peak flow!

Winter might be my favorite time to stay at this lodge! Since it’s located along Highway 140, a lower-elevation route, Yosemite Valley is easier to access as compared to the other routes. It’s also the perfect time to book a room with a cozy fireplace and spa bath to warm up and relax after a snow day in Yosemite.

If you’re hoping to save money, look for off-season dates (late fall through early spring), but try to avoid holidays and February’s firefall season, when prices and demand spike.

TL;DR Summary of My Yosemite View Lodge Review

My husband and I stayed at Yosemite View Lodge for the first time in February during firefall season at Yosemite National Park. We didn’t end up seeing Firefall, but we did experience Yosemite during a snowstorm and it was absolutely magical!

Seeing Yosemite blanketed in fresh snow is easily one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever witnessed. 😍

One of the biggest perks was the location. Being just two miles from the Arch Rock Entrance and about 25 minutes from Yosemite Valley made it so easy to get in and out of the park, especially with snowy conditions.

We splurged on a Deluxe River View King Spa room, and it was worth every penny! After long days outside in freezing temperatures, coming back to a cozy fireplace and spa tub was the best feeling.

One morning we woke up to snow falling, made warm tea, and sat on the balcony listening to the Merced River below us. It was truly a vibe. 😌

The rooms are clean, comfortable, and all come with kitchenettes. I honestly didn’t realize our room came with a kitchenette – microwave, toaster, coffee maker, stove, sink, mini fridge, and bowls/plates/pots/pans/cups/utensils. I could literally live in that hotel room!

While prices can definitely spike during summer and holidays, off-season stays are more budget friendly. Outside of firefall season, staying during the winter months is probably the best time!

So, would we stay again? 100% yes!!

I haven’t personally eaten at either one yet, but having restaurants right at the lodge is a huge plus after a long day exploring Yosemite.

The River Restaurant & Lounge serves breakfast and dinner (typically 5:00–8:30 pm). For something more casual and family-friendly, Parkside Pizza is a great grab-and-go style option, open Friday and Saturday evenings from 5:00–8:30 pm during the winter season.

Yosemite View Lodge Amenities

One of the best parts about staying at Yosemite View Lodge (besides the incredible river and mountain views) is how many amenities are right on property.

After a long day exploring Yosemite National Park, it’s really nice having everything you need without having to drive anywhere.

There are three outdoor pools, six outdoor hot tubs, one indoor pool, and one indoor spa.

Floating in the pool while listening to the Merced River rush by is such a peaceful way to wind down after a full day of hiking.

🍕 On-Site Restaurants and Lounge

You don’t have to leave the property to grab dinner! The lodge partners with a third-party operator to offer dining options.

• The River Restaurant & Lounge – A sit-down option serving breakfast and dinner (typically 5:00–8:30 pm).
• Parkside Pizza – A casual, family-friendly option, usually open Friday and Saturday evenings during the winter season.

It’s especially convenient after a long day in the park when you just want something easy.

Need snacks for a day in the park or want a sweatshirt to take home? The on-site gift shop and convenience store carries basics like cereal, drinks, grab-and-go food, souvenirs, and even swimsuits.

It’s super helpful since El Portal is small and you may not want to drive farther for essentials.
